Imm Sim

Our "Imm-Sim" (Immigration Simulation) Day was a huge success!  EVERY single child dressed up, contributed to their family bundle, and played their role to the hilt!

In the morning we filed our paperwork and created passports to be presented at the border crossing.  Then we made our way to port and waited.

In the afternoon we boarded the ship, made the journey to Ellis Island, disembarked and processed through health checks and registration. (A special thank you to our foreign speakers to help bring some authenticity to the experience.)

On Friday we went through the process of becoming a naturalized citizen.  We took a test about the US government, took an oath and said the Pledge of Allegiance. Every child received a certificate to commemorate the day.

We hope this was a fun, exciting and educational experience for the kids.  We often hear back from former students that it was one of the highlights of the year and as they study more about immigration and the US government in years to come, it has given them a stronger understanding.
